Center for Phytophthora Science & Management

The Center for Phytophthora Science and Management at Murdoch University was launched in 2003 by the Hon. Minister for the Environment; Science Dr Judy Edwards MLA. The Center is a collaborative effort between scientists, government agencies and industry to provide science, management and training to underpin the amelioration of the threats posed by Phytophthora dieback.

The aim of the Center is to:

  • understand the etiology of P. cinnamomi in the range of plant communities and natural ecosystems impacted by the pathogen;
  • to provide training and extension on the most up to-date methods of disease detection, disease control and flora conservation techniques;
  • provide management prescriptions that reduce the impact of the disease on native vegetation; and
  • conserve endangered communities and taxa at risk from diseases caused by Phytophthora species.
